From over one hundred applicants, Barbara Chase-Riboud was selected as one of the five finalists to design a monument in Boston Common memorial-izing civil rights icons Coretta Scott King and Martin Luther King Jr. WE Plus Architects was then selected to serve as the right hand for the artist in articulating the design and its associative landscape.
The monument touches the earth just as MLK and CSK touched humanity during the Civil Rights Movement. The ripples of their actions are felt throughout time, memorialized in the form of the undulating waves surrounding the monument, with their words embedded in the hills upon which the public can contemplate, feel and interact.
